Avoiding Maternity Clothes

So my main clothing concern in the first trimester was being comfortable. I don't know why, but I can't stand anything heavy or tight when I am newly pregnant. I know it's weird since I was not showing yet so everything should feel the same, but it didn't. Tight clothes made me more nauseous :) The second clothing concern I had was coming up with  outfits from my "non maternity" closet. I will be honest, I feel much cuter while pregnant if I can rework my own closet instead of wearing maternity clothes. I do have a couple items that I love, (like my True Religion Maternity Jeans) but other than that I am pretty comfortable wearing my normal clothes.
So here I have a couple outfits that I wore in my first trimester (very early on) that I am confident I will be wearing again in my third trimester. I will make sure I get pics just to prove I am not full of crap!

I love this combination of an elastic waist skirt, long top (I will be switching out this particular top for a longer tank) and a cropped cardigan. This will transfer to the summer easily AND it will fit me no matter how large I get!

Cardigan- Anthropologie, Top- Kohls, Skirt- Ruche, Legging and Leg Warmers- Kohls, Boots- Steve Madden

I love me some long dresses! Nothing and I mean NOTHING is as easy to make work for maternity like a nice, long, stretchy dress! I also am LOVING cropped tops right now for layering. Best part? My stomach will not stretch the top out!
Dress- Target, Cropped Top- Anthropologie, Sandals- Steve Madden, Necklace- Gift

What do you like to wear while pregnant? Or if you have never been pregnant, do you like the look of maternity clothes? Would love to hear your thoughts! XOXO Christie

So far, I HATE most maternity clothes I have come across. Why do they seem to think I want to be all baggy and frumpy? I want to keep the same style as I did before I was pregnant. SO FRUSTRATING - some of my pre-pregnancy clothes will fit me a little longer, but after that I don't know what to do. ~ Andi

I have to have full panel pants. I cannot stand to have anything rolling up underneath my belly! I've got 7 weeks left, and i really don't even like to wear pants. If i'm at home and can get away with wearing hubbys t shirt and panties... that's what i'm in. If i'm out... more than likely i'm wearing a dress. ;)

First of all, I love the cropped sweater over a stretchy tank dress-- too cute!
When I was pregnant (5 long years ago), I was only 19 so maternity clothes were a little too mature for me. I kept buying regular clothes in larger sizes. I actually still wear the one sweater that I wore the delivery room (when I was 50 lbs heavier than I am not-pregnant) because now it fits like a loose bohemian-ish tunic.
Next time I'm pregnant, I will check out the maternity lines at Forever 21 and H & M, they are affordable and chic. I'm so bummed those weren't options back in '06!

I love my maternity clothes and was sad to pack them away. Pregnancy is the only time I ever feel truly comfortable in my body, so I think that is part of the reason. I've been pregnant in warm and cold seasons now, so my wardrobe is pretty good. I have dressy and casual clothes, jeans and yoga pants. I don't consider myself fashionable though. I'm hanging out here in hopes of being inspired and educated. ;)

you make a beautiful pregnant mommy! what a blessing to be able to rock your regular clothes for a bit longer. The birthing process is so strange to me still. Tight clothes making me nauseous. I don't even know what that means in my non-children having world. I remember when my friend was pregnant and she could smell fruit getting ready to rot but to me it looked and smelled delicious. I felt so bad for her. haha she almost gagged.

I'm such an elastic waist convert!! Pregnant now with #2 and just find they are soooo much more comfy than trying to make normal clothes work. I love your ideas though - there are plenty of 'normal' clothes that can be worn right through pregnant. Just not my black skinny leg jeans! ;) They're packed away!

Thanks for all the feedback! I get both sides :) We'll see how it goes! I will be posting lots of pictures of outfits as I grow so you will get to see if I manage to stay out of the maternity clothes or not!xoxo Christie- Christie

yes, i had the same frustration with maternity clothes.. the cute ones were too expensive, and the affordable ones were so blah... I just went to Forever 21, Target, Wal-mart and bought trendy tops in a size or two larger... i did buy maternity pants thought, because i couldn't get comfortable with walking around knowing that my pants are undone.,, even if there WAS a belly band over them...
