Hair Ideas

Happy Monday Everyone!

If you didn't already know, Christie and I are re-launching Ma Nouvelle Mode next week with a new design, move to wordpress, and a whole lot of awesome!  We are really excited to reveal everything to you.  In the meantime, as we are working so hard to prepare, we have decided to take this week off from new posts.  This does not mean that we will be around or even have posts!  We wouldn't want to leave anyone hanging!  So instead we decided to do a little recap of some of our favorite posts in some of the categories we write about.

And what a better way to start a Monday than with hair ideas!  We have done quite a few and they seem to be ever so popular, so in case you missed them or are a new reader or just need a refresher, here are some of our favorites.

No Heat Curls is the most popular so far with over 1,600 views on YouTube.

Our second viewed is my high bun with poof.  I love this one because it is easy to do and cute but you hair is still up and out of your face.

Here is one of my personal favorites, because I love big hair and all, Sarah Jessica Parker big hair.  It's so fun and easy!

This next hairstyle I personally loved.  I did it in Fall, so I called it a fall hairstyle, but really it's perfect whenever!
Here's the video for it:

Last one I will share is more recent and is Christie's first hair tutorial!  I loved it and it has done really well on YouTube as well.  It is how to style loose curls on short hair.  In fact, it got featured over at 30 Handmade Days for most viewed!  Here is the picture:
And here is the video:

Need some more ideas?  We have plenty!  (And SO much more to come!) Take a minute and peruse our hair archives for some more inspiration!

And stay tuned!! Next week is the big relaunch!! :)  Happy Monday!

We are going to be linking up this post to all our link parties here.

Loose Curls for Short Hair

Guys, I did my first hair tutorial. I will admit it, I feel like total dork talking to the camera. In fact. I need to emphasize that point again....... I feel like SUCH a DORK!!! First of all since this was my first tutorial I learned a few things: Like look at the camera....clean the mirror first......don't say the same thing over and over....etc. But even with all the stupid stuff that embarrasses me I LOVE this hair style on me right now, so I am going to still post the tutorial. My hair is at a totally strange place with length and there really is only so much I can do that feels fun and chic.
And just as a note: this method of curling/waving works on ALL length of hair so if you have long or medium length hair this will look amazing on you too!

Ok here it is.......GAH!

Go easy on me! Xoxo- Christie

Lauren Conrad Braided Bun

Good Morning everyone!

I have been in a little bit of a funk this last week.  Maybe it's because I just got home from a vacation, you know the post vacation slump, like 'what?? I have to do stuff? This is real life now?' kinda thing.  Or maybe because it hasn't.stopped.snowing. for like three days straight and I'm from southern California.  The way our house is situated, it makes it hard to leave without your car literally sliding down the hill.  So maybe I have cabin fever.  Whatever it is, I need a little pick me up.  I shared this tutorial over at 30 Handmade Days a couple weeks ago, where I am a beauty contributor, and I thought I would share it with you all as well.  Hope you enjoy!

Although the pictures don't exactly match, it's the same hairstyle!

Start with parting your hair to one side.  Leave out a section in the front to use later and bring the rest of it over to the side of your choice.

Braid to your side of preference and secure with an elastic.  I would suggest using a clear one or a color that matches your hair color.

Starting at the top of the braid, loosen the braid.  Don't pull pieces entirely out, but enough to give your braid more volume.  It's the same idea I used in my big poofy french braid here.

Then wrap the hair up and around, bringing it forward first.

Once it is wrapped around and in a pretty little bun, secure it with bobby pins.  Try to make sure that you elastic isn't showing.

Then take the remaining piece of hair that you originally left out and lightly twist it back and around the bun, securing with bobby pins.  Mine looks a tad bit different than Lauren's because I have bangs so it didn't hang down as much in the front.  If yours wasn't curled a bit already like mine was, add a few big barrel curls away from your face so it will smoothly go back.  And if any hair falls out of the front, they are nicely curled!

That's it! Apply a little hairspray if you need it, but otherwise, voila!  Isn't it easy?  I hope you give this a try next time you're out and about.  You might recognize the picture.  I wore this hairstyle with my green Zara shirt outfit.

Inspired to try a new hairstyle?  I hope so!! Thanks for reading and have a great day!

Now if I could just get out of my pajamas....

The Side Knot, A Hair Tutorial

I have a fun hairstyle for you today brought to you by my dear friend Nicole.  Nope, never met her in real life, but still a kindred spirit!  Don't you love blogging??  Anyway, take it away, girl!

Hey Lovelies!
Nicole here from The Neesby Lookbook
So happy to chat with ya while the beautiful Natalia is on her lucky trip to Paris.

I am super pumped to share a tutorial on one of my favorite hairstyles.
This Side Knot is awesome for everything from
 freshly washed hair to the locks that are begging to be washed.
And it's one of those hairstyles that is better with every hair NOT in place.
Are you so pumped?!
Okreadysetgo.
- - -
First you need any bland head of hair
that is slightly dampened
{I like to use my leave in conditioner or just plain 'ole water works well too}

Start by teasing the hair on the side where the knot will sit, as well as the back of your head.
This creates a fuller look to the final style.

Gather your lovely locks into a low, side ponytail.
{I like to braid my side scragglers and pin them around the back of my head.
You could also leave them hanging for a more free look.}

Begin to loosely twist the ponytail into a side bun.
It's more of a cross between twisting and smashing the hair onto the side of your head.
Pin the bun in several places to hold securely.
Be sure to leave some pieces loose and free.
This adds to the overall effortlessly easy look.

If you have bangs like me, you may want to use a bobby pin
to secure some of the looser strands between your bangs and the Side Knot.

Voila!  Your lovely, simple Side Knot
A perfect hair style that can be dressed up or down.

{back and side views}

Guest Post - 10 ways to wear a braid!

Hi! I'm Annelise and I'm the quirky girl who blogs over at Bye Bye Beehive.

I'm on a 365-day journey where I'm hoping to grow long, beautiful hair. You know, that hair. That ultra-long, spiral curled, perfectly highlighted stuff that the movie stars wear around town. I'm going to have it. Someday. But until that day comes, I'll just be blogging along, wandering around, and trying out some fun new hairstyles.

My catch with my blogging adventure is that I can't use ANY products or styling tools. That means absolutely NO hairspray, NO hair dye or highlights, NO teasing, and absolutely NO blow dryers or straightening irons. Gasp!

It sounds ridiculous, right? It is. In fact, I'm a little over 2 months into my journey and I've already come up with some pretty cool hairstyles. I have a whole section of my blog, called The Hair Style Guide, which showcases everything from Bantu knots, to twists, to cool updo's.

Today I'm going to show you 10 ways to wear a braid. Are you ready for it? Count 'em. It's 10.
  1. Three by three
  2. Halo braid
  3. Braided side topsy tail
  4. Headband braid
  5. Braided chignon
  6. Double plait to a messy bun
  7. French braid a la bun
  8. Fishtail
  9. Boho braid
  10. Twist Braid
Some are easy, and some are a bit complicated. Luckily for you, if you click each link above, it will take you to my page so you can learn how to do those braided hairstyles.

Which braid are you just dying to try?? Some are cool... some are just not my style... but rock it, sister, if it's your thing!

Don't forget to check out all my fun hair happenings over at Bye Bye Beehive. I'd love to get to know you if you have a moment (or a couple hours) to wander around!!

(Psst... I also blog at Simply Aunie... go check me out!)

Kardashian style Chignon ~ Hair Tutorial

First and foremost, I would LOVE for you to take a minute and visit my friend Amy's Facebook page for her new shop Avery's Loft.  I know all you fellow creatives understand how it can be starting off and I would love it if some MNM readers (that's you guys!) could show her some love.  Go ahead, I'll wait...

Thank you!!  You guys are truly awesome!  You can enter her giveaway here to win a cute pair of boot cuffs for winter.  I can't wait to get my pair!  Make sure you leave a separate entry for each comment!

Now, I am not a big Kim K fan, she kinda pimps herself out too much for me, but she is stylish a lot of the time, and you can catch a cute hair-do in there every once in a while too.  I loved her chignon and I don't know who that is on the right.  Anyone know?

The video I have is kinda a cute video tutorial.  You can wear it to the lower side, like I did in the video, or you can wear it up high kinda Kim Kardashian-ish.  I have worn it both ways and love it.  Get this, the video is less than two minutes.  A hair tutorial in less than two minutes??  Yep!  I hope you enjoy!

It's my first time making a stop-motion video, so I know it isn't perfect. But the cute French song makes up for it, doesn't it?

Happy Monday!!

I will be linking this up to all my linky parties featured here!

Jessica Alba Hair Tutorial

Good morning everyone and happy Monday!  I had a MAJOR mom fail last week.  Thursday I slept through the alarm and we totally missed school.  Then to top it off Friday, we got up a little late, but I thought we could still make it... nope.  Got there and the doors were locked.  {in France they lock the doors to the school when class starts}  Tae missed 2 days of school last week because of me.  I felt so bad, I am totally determined to be better this coming week.

The sad part is that most likely, we're talking high percentage here, that won't be the last time Tae misses school on account of his mom.  Sorry dude, I just can't get my stuff together sometimes!!

That has got to be frustrating for my husband.

Sweater: France store; Shorts: H&M; tights: Target; Necklace: Lisa Leonard Designs {win one here!}

Here is a fun tutorial though.  I know we have all seen Jessica Alba's beautiful braided do.  I have wanted to try it for some time and here it is!  I left out my bangs because I liked the way it looked on me, but they very easily could have been braided in.
Here is mine with the original.  No comment on the skin tones.  I've been in France too long.

And to top it off I made a little video for you.  I try super duper hard to keep my videos short.  This one is 7 minutes.  Not exactly quick but not so long either.  You can click through it to get the gist.  I hope you like it!

If you follow me on Facebook, I posted some hair pictures to see which was your favorite holiday hairstyle.  I might just do a tutorial for one!  I am surprised, Selna Gomez is beating Lauren Conrad!

In case you missed it, Lisa Leonard Designs is giving away $50 to her gorgeous shop!!  You still have time to enter, so go check it out!!

Have a great day!

High Poofy Bun ~ Hair Tutorial

Hi everyone!!

Happy Wednesday!  I am actually a bit under the weather and all I want to do is lay in bed and watch all the Twilight movies.  What?  Don't judge.  The movie is out next week and I want to be certain I am up to speed.  Important stuff here.  {I am dragging my husband to Lyon to see it opening night in English 2 DAYS before it opens in America! yesssss!!}

As you might have guessed by now, I am somehow on a personal mission to stop wearing my hair in a boring ponytail or messy bun, although they do both come in handy at times. {you should see me today...}  I want to be creative with my hair.  This tutorial is a high bun with a poof that looks fantastic worn with a headband!  Your hair's still up, but not boring!  I did this video before moving to France and it was on Gina's blog over at Acute Designs.  I thought I would also share it with you.  Hope you like it!
I know the picture doesn't match the tutorial hair, but it is the same hairstyle just with two headbands.  Oh the options!!

If you are interested in more hair tutorials, you can dig through my hair archives here, I have a lot of fun with it and have quite a bit more coming!  You can also always check out my YouTube channel which has all my videos. {including our House Hunter's International 'audition' tape...}

Hope you are having a great day! A demain! (until tomorrow in French)

Half Up Holiday Hair

5 flights, 5 airplanes, 4 cities, 3 countries, 2 days spent in California (& 2 spent traveling) 1 lost bag and 1 tired lady.

I left Thursday morning from France, got into LA Thursday night, went straight to the salon where I got my new bangs! (love you Sue!)  Spent Friday with my mom shopping, hanging out, and doing hair tutorials.  Saturday we filmed all day, got to have lunch with my dad on Wilshire since he was working all weekend.  Shopped at a cute little fabric store and came home to have dinner with my mom, brother, sister-in-law and beautiful niece.  Woke up bright and early Sunday morning, met my parents for coffee at the airport, almost missed my flight and I was off.  Talk about a whirlwind weekend!!  But I loved it, these are the things in life that I will look back on and be glad I did.

I have a hair tutorial for ya today!  My mom and I were able to bust out like 4 different ones, which was awesome.  I am trying to take into consideration the holidays when doing these hair tutorials, so you can have ideas for you dinner parties etc.

This one is a simple half up or you can continue it and have it be a kinda twisted waterfall.  That sounds bad, like the waterfall is messed up or something.  Hopefully, after you see the pics and watch the video you'll see what I mean...

And what do you think of my new haircut?  Do I look 12 years old?

I love my stylist, too, she is fan-stinkin-tastic.  Here's the video, enjoy!

I hope your weekend was great.  I am linking this up to my linky parties here.

Don't forget to enter The Sunshine Stitch giveaway!  $25 to her shop!!

Happy Tuesday!

Rachel McAdams Double Braided Headband

As you're reading this, I am flying over the ocean back to California for the weekend.  Because I'm a balla like that.  Not really, but it makes me feel cool to say that.  I can't tell you just yet why I am going to Cali, unless you already know, then that's fine. If you don't, stay tuned, it's kinda fun!!
Today I have a tutorial that resembles Rachel McAdams double braided headband that you may or may not have seen floating around the internet.  It is super easy, but simple and beautiful, so I gave it a whirl!  Here is the inspiration:

And here is mine:

 I know this next picture is totally overexposed, but I thought it looked cool.  So you got to see it.  You're welcome.
 The red lips and makeup are from the e.l.f. makeup tutorial.  Love me some red lips now-a-days!  Also love this hairdo.
Mines kinda messy because I did it using the webcam as a mirror and let's just say, it's not the same.  Here is the video tutorial, I hope you like it!!

{Warning: country music ahead. Just in case you don't like it, push mute now!}

Go enter the Smokey Eye Kit Giveaway from yesterday!  It's super easy to enter, just follow here!  Winner announced Friday!  That's lots of !! I must be excited about it... haha

Now off to sleep in my comfy hotel bed.  It's so big, makes me miss my hubby for a sec.  Then I remember, alone time, and I'm good.
Happy Thursday!
