Good Bye Google Friend Connect

Happy Thursday everyone!

I don't know if you have heard, but Google has announced that they are doing away with Google Friend Connect for blogs hosted on anything other than Blogger starting in March.  Here is what Google is saying about it:

"Friend Connect allows webmasters to add social features to their sites by embedding a few snippets of code. We're retiring the service for all non-Blogger sites on March 1, 2012. We encourage affected sites to create a Google+ page and place a Google+ badge on their site so they can bring their community of followers to Google+ and use new features like Circles and Hangouts to keep in touch."

You can read the whole article here.

This may not affect those who are on blogger and plan on staying.  I, however, will be moving to Wordpress starting in March.  It seems like Google is really trying to push Google+.  I am not sure I really see it taking off.  I am on it, but I never use it, which is what I usually hear from other bloggers and people.  Facebook seems to have the monopoly on that one.

Isn't GFC kinda a weird thing anyway?  Having followers?  I mean, really when we think about, it is a status thing.  I guess a way of measuring your success as a blogger.  You don't need a GFC to be successful because your success doesn't have to be based on how many people are following you.

So what to do with all this news?  I have decided to remove my GFC after this post.  I just don't want to get more readers only to have them vanish in March.  I have so many new ideas coming, it is hard to keep them to myself!  I can't wait to share them with you.  Honestly, I am a little excited to move forward without GFC so people won't be able to judge me at first site.  (we all know we do it!)  I am also a little nervous.  I don't want to see my numbers drop too much.  I am willing to take this chance though, to move forward.

With all that being said, if you follow through GFC and you enjoy reading my blog, would you consider subscribing?  It is really the same thing, in case you were wondering.  You can click here or click my RSS Feed button up there to the top right.

What are your thoughts?  Do you think that Google+ is going to take off?  Are you on Google+?  Here is a link to mine, you know, just in case it does take off, I want to be on the bandwagon!!

If you are on Wordpress or another forum, when will you be removing your GFC?  Or will you just wait for Google to do it for you.  So many questions!

Happy Thursday! Almost the weekend!

In case you need other awesomeness to check out, I am over at The Grant Life sharing some holiday beauty ideas aaaand over at Junk in the Trunk Trio sharing a scrumptious recipe!

I'm beginning to feel like Google is wanting to own my life. I get on the computer and Google pops up with these notes about what other people I know are doing. So I know they know what I'm doing too. That's creepy.
Maybe we should go "underground." Like become all anarchist and stuff. Huh? Wanna? Yeah, me neither.

Thank you so much for this post! I'm on wordpress currently, and I'm a little up in the air about the whole GFC thing. I figure if my traffic is good and/or climbing does it really matter how many "followers" I have?
I think I'm going to strongly suggest the RSS feed, and I'm going to add a Google Plus button. When I get that all organized, I'm going to take down my GFC.

I'm about to sound retarded here, but how the heck do you use the RSS feed?

Haha, never mind... just did the easy thing and started following you with Bloglovin' instead.

I think I will be removing it in advance too after reading this! It really is a pointless feature anyway. Thanks for sharing!
I found you on Casey Wiegands facebook page :)

Great post Natalia! Thank you. I love how you say that your success isn't based on how many followers you have. I personally don't have too many followers at the moment and it's discouraging at times to see new bloggers who have many many more but when I think about it I love my blog and I love that I have a place to share my thoughts and ideas. I love the community around blogs. It's been a blessing. I'll probably remove GFC in the coming weeks... but I have to admit I'll miss the excitement that comes when I see that number rise even by just one. Also- Yes, having "followers" is a weird thing.

When I moved to wordpress I never added GFC. As for Google+ Uh, I'm with you I'm on it but I can't remember the last time I went on there. I have a hard enough time keeping up with my blog, twitter, my personal facebook, occasionally my blog oriented facebook stuff and my actual real life. Somehow, I feel like ever twitter tkes place above my real life some days. So sad.

GFC, besides acting as an RSS feed, is pointless. Like 1/10 of the people who are my 'followers' visit my site. Actually, I think I am looking forward to this. Thanks for the heads up, and RSSing you right now! Google+ is too annoying to deal with.
Hope you have been doing great girl! I bet the kiddos are really starting to look forward to Christmas!

NEVER mind. Guess google + is the new RSS. Annoying still!
